Removing Small Spots

Sometimes photos aren’t perfect, but they can be! Through the magic of Photoshop. If a subject has a blemish, there’s a way to remove the blemish using the Spot Healing Brush tool.

Open your image in Photoshop.

1.

Select the layer you will be working with.

2.

Locate and select the Spot Healing Brush tool. (Do not confuse this with the Healing Brush tool!)

3.

The size of the brush we’ll use depends on the size of the spot we’re retouching. Photoshop will use surrounding pixels to fill in the spot you’re removing. Because of this, we want to keep the tool as small as possible. You can adjust the size in the options bar. A keyboard shortcut for adjusting the size is the [ to make the brush smaller and the ] to make the brush larger.

4.

Zoom in on the image and adjust the size of the brush to fit the spot you’re correcting. Click on the spot and watch the Photoshop remove it and replace the pixels.

5.

You can also click and drag to remove irregularly shaped spots.

6.

Continue clicking on spots and/or dragging spots you want to correct until the image is adjusted to your liking.
