Infographic

I created this infographic for my ART 331 class. The purpose of the infographic was to persuade viewers to stop using water bottles by exposing water bottle’s threat to health and the environment.  The challenge for me was to fit all the required information while establishing hierarchy and creating flow from one piece of information to the next. After leading the viewer through the information, the infographic ends with a call to action.

Booklet

I chose to create a booklet based on the talk, “Spiritual Eclipse.” The juxtaposition between the light and the dark visually represent the topic, as well as the proportions of light and dark on the cover. The assignment required that the booklet showcase strong and appropriate typography and visual elements, and the underlying use of a grid structure should be evident in the design. The booklet is typography-based with design elements and one photo of the speaker with a caption.

Type Poster

This poster was created for my ART 230 class. The assignment required creating a poster that showcased the Egyptian State font. I showcased various weights of the font, as well punctuation examples. I tried to achieve simplicity and balance.

Business Card

I created this project for ART 230 class. The purpose of this project is to create a personal business card with a monogram logo, name, title, and contact information. The style, design, and colors should reflect the nature of the business title. I applied principles of design, which one would expect to see on a graphic designer’s card. I used repetition with all of the colors (charcoal, gray, and turquoise), alignment with all the elements on the page, and hierarchy to keep the eye moving through the design.

Abstract Letters

This project was one of my first design assignments for art 230. The aim was to overlay letters of the same typefaces—one serif, one sans serif—in different sizes, black and white, to create two beautiful abstract designs.

Symbols

The aim of this project was to combine a random noun with an unrelated business or service in black and white, without the use of type. This provided a unique challenge that required strong visual communication and creativity. My selections for this project included: Waves Podiatry, Cactus Fitness Studio, and Spider Bowling.

Visual Instructions

We live in a global world, which proves a communication challenge. Now, more than ever, it is important to communicate clearly, often without words. Ikea masterfully uses images to communicate to their global audience. This assignment challenges the designer to make a simple 5-6 step process easily understood to a universal audience, without words. I chose to make instructions for a simple manicure.

Photo Montage

The purpose of this project was to create an inspirational poster by blending the pixels of multiple images to create one, cohesive design. I chose a message about faith because it is a defining part of my life.

Promotional Posters

I was assigned the artist, Paul Klee, and tasked with creating three posters to promote a fictional art show. The assignment specified creating a poster that was a collage of his work, one that featured a single piece of his work, and a one that was based on my own photography. I was limited to the typefaces provided by the instructor.

Adoption Infographic

For this project, I researched a topic that I was passionate about and created an infographic to share what I learned. I chose a colorful, fun, tetradic color scheme to reflect childhood.

Calculator App Design

This assignment tasked me with designing an app that calculates. I decided to design a smoking cessation app for IOS that tracks and calculates the number of cigarettes a person smokes, their craving intensity, and percentage of improved health for various categories. I designed the layout and all functionalities within the app.

Website Re-design

For this project, we were tasked with re-designing an actual website with poor design, Loup County, Nebraska’s official site. Not only is the original design lacking aesthetics, the UI is confusing. The design needed to include information on getting a driver’s license, finding a voting precinct, using a photo history, and obtaining building permits. I designed for mobile and desktop views.

Found Type

An observation of the world around us looks a little different to those with an imagination.  Shapes form in unexpected places. Clouds showcase a story across the sky, and cracks on the sidewalk take an entirely new form. This project takes this concept to new heights by seeking letter forms in ordinary objects, finding a unifying theme, and creating a new font with photographs.
